About Reflexology #01

What is Reflexology

Reflexology is an ancient form of therapeutic foot treatment which relieves stress with simple pressure to the feet while you recline on a couch in comfort.

It dates back to 2500BC in Ancient Egypt, India and China where it was used to promote the body's own healing ability. In 1912 Dr William Fitzgerald introduced the therapy to the western world as 'Zone Therapy'. However, it was Eunice Ingham, in the 1930's, who further developed 'Zone Terapy', into what is known today as Reflexology.

It is a gentle natural system of healing based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet which correspond to organs, glands and structures within the body. Gentle massage techniques on these reflexes will encourage the body's own ability to heal, and restore the flow of energy.

What Conditions Can it Help?

Reflexology has helped many people suffering from a wide variety of common medical complaints, including:

  • Stress related conditions
  • Sinus congestion
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Digestive disorders
  • ME (chronic fatigue syndrome)
  • Hypertension
  • Migraine
  • Vertigo
  • Headaches

What Benefits can be Expected?

Reflexology can help to relieve stress and tension, improve the blood supply and stimulate the body's natural healing ability and thus enhance the quality of life.

Since reflexology treats the whole person, not just the symptoms of a disease, most people benefit from treatment.

An increasing number of people are using this safe, natural therapy as a way of relaxing and of balancing and harmonising the body.
